First Grade

Weekly Notes:

Spelling: Please remember to review the spelling words nightly. Our spelling test is on Fridays, and grades will count for the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Reading: READ, READ, READ  NIGHTLY!  Each weekly theme has a set of high frequency words which need to be mastered by the end of the quarter. Please help your child by practicing those words, as well as reading to them nightly. Each child should be reading for at least 15 minutes each night. Pizza Hut reading forms for February are due on Wednesday, February29th. 

Math: Please check your child's folder for math homework. Work will be sent home each time we finish 2 topic pages.

Religion: In this next chapter we are discussing Scripture and different stories that we have read so far. We will then discuss the Eucharist and Christ's presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Our Saint of the month is Saint Katharine Drexel. We will be learning more about her life and her dedication to God.

Science: This month we will begin our science unit on Dental Health.

Please send in any gently used books for Bernie's Book Bank. Our classroom goal is to collect at least 25 books! We have reached our goal but if you would still like to send books, please do!

Reminder!

First graders became doctors on Monday February 6th! During our lesson on contractions, the students performed "Word Surgery." They used tools such as stitches (tape), scalpel (scissors), and bandages (band-aids). The children cut off the letters they did not need and bandaged them back together using tape and band-aids. They even got to wear masks and gloves as they performed "surgery." The children had a lot of fun and will always remember how to make contractions!
